The LGH Physician Fulfillment Committee/MD’s4Wellness has secured funding from the LGH Faculty Engagement to support ten commensality groups for the next 12 month period.

MD’s4Wellness – Well Doc Series

Since 2018, MDs4Wellness has been a joint committee of the North Shore Division of Family Practice and Lions Gate Hospital Medical Staff members, with a focus on physician well being through social and educational activities.  Starting in 2024, we will be hosting an ongoing event series where specific topics pertaining to physician satisfaction, growth, and flourishing are being presented and discussed. MDs4Wellness will also be hosting several social events throughout the year, such as snowshoeing at Cypress this winter, hiking on the North Shore trails, and a potential summer beach picnic. UBC Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Skills Physician Wellness Group Training

The Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Skills Physician Wellness Group Training Course is a free 8-week course designed to provide practicing BC physicians with education and training to support their own mental well-being through evidence-based self-management strategies. Secondary benefits include increased awareness of CBT and its clinical applications and training in skills coaching for patients.

Format

The course is delivered virtually in real-time over the span of 8 weeks. Each week consists of a 2-hour session facilitated by a specially trained family physician or psychiatrist, which accommodates a maximum of 12 learners (with a solo facilitator) or 24 learners (with two facilitators) to maximize opportunities for group discussion and questions.

Skills Gained

During the weekly workshops, participants will practice incorporating CBT Skills into their own unique situations. The program also requires reflective exercises and learners’ personal commitments to practice change, as well as weekly readings, resources and interactive content via an online portal.

Learners can claim up to 48.0 Mainpro+ credits/16.0 MOC Section 1 credits.

Registration

All physicians can benefit from the UBC CPD Physician Wellness Groups. Priority placement will be given to physicians from select regions who may be interested in proceeding with advanced facilitator training.

2SLGBTQIA+ Affinity Group

Vancouver Coastal Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion has a new affinity group for 2SLGBTQIA+ staff and medical staff. This group meets to connect, network and foster a sense of community. The purpose and focus of this group will continue to evolve collaboratively with those attending. This group is open to all VCH staff and medical staff who identify as part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. We respectfully ask that those who don’t identify in this way understand the need for an exclusive space, and refrain from joining this group. We thank you for your allyship.

Physician Health Program – Wellness Supports for Physicians and Their Families:

The Physician Health Program is a valuable resource for BC physicians, medical students, and residents as well as their partners and children. The program provides 24-hour access to a confidential helpline – anytime you need it – to receive support, referrals and counselling for challenges such as Issues can include: physical health, mental health and addictions, relationship issues, workplace issues and burnout. Physician Peer Support Program

Contact the Physician Peer Support Program and be connected with a trained physician peer supporter.
